Automated Shuttle Comes to UC Davis West Village

A new visitor is making the rounds at the University of California, Davis’ West Village neighborhood. Through June 1, San Jose-based Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation’s (SAIC) Innovation Center is demonstrating its automated, all-electric shuttle around a defined loop of the solar-panel-lined West Village community as part of an agreement between the auto company and UC Davis.

Davis Breaks Ground on 34-Acre Student Housing Project

DAVIS -- University of California, Davis officials and private partners broke ground on the largest student housing project in the nation on Tuesday.

The Green in the West Village student housing neighborhood will have nearly 3,400 beds when completed. One thousand students will be able to move in by fall of 2020.

The university used $575 million in bond financing and joined with private partners to build the 34-acre project, which will be run by a third party.

Davis Enterprise 2/27/19 Despite the very wet weather, the official groundbreaking for UC Davis’ newest student housing development went off as planned on Tuesday. Chancellor Gary May joked that it would be more of a “mud-breaking” on the soggy day, but the spirits were high as UCD administrators, city officials and development partners dug their commemorative gold shovels into a makeshift dirt trough.

West Village Expansion to Start Construction

Construction of the West Village Expansion student housing project at the University of California, Davis, is set to begin before the winter holiday, with a formal groundbreaking ceremony to come in early 2019.

“This project is part of the significant commitment we’ve made to our students and to the community to provide on-campus housing for 100 percent of any growth in new student enrollment,” said UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May. “I’m thrilled we can move forward in the new year.”

Site work is getting underway in the next few weeks for what will ultimately be more than 3,000 new student beds at University of California Davis.

With closure of bond financing Thursday, the university can move into building an expansion to its West Village student housing complex.

Sac City Dedicates Second Building at UC Davis

The Sacramento City College Davis Center cut a ceremonial ribbon and opened a second building Wednesday on the UC Davis campus. For the first time, the Davis Center will have science-lab classrooms, so the Davis Center can now offer courses in chemistry, anatomy and physiology, among other topics.

For the first time, Davis Center students will now be able to meet all their general education requirements locally … without traveling over the Yolo Causeway for lab courses at the main Sacramento City College campus.

UC Davis has selected University Student Living of New Jersey to enter exclusive negotiations to develop two major housing projects on campus, at Orchard Park and at West Village. The selection follows a request for proposals issued in June. 

Regents to Consider UC Davis Long Range Development Plan

he University of California, Davis, will formally submit its new Long Range Development Plan and accompanying Environmental Impact Report for approval at the next meeting of the UC Regents, July 18. Once approved, the new plan, which includes capacity for an additional 2 million square feet of academic and administrative space and up to 9,050 beds of new on-campus housing, will go into effect.
